LAMBORGHINI IRON LYNX ANNOUNCES 2024 LINEUPS, COMPLETES 2023 TESTING PROGRAMME

By Iron Lynx

With the completion of its second test on American soil at Circuit Of The Americas, Lamborghini Iron Lynx made one further step towards its 2024 Hypercar debut with the brand-new Lamborghini SC63 race car. The team is delighted to confirm the final additions to its roster, which will be representing Lamborghini Squadra Corse for an ambitious double effort in 2024.

Lining up for the FIA World Endurance Championship, long-time Lamborghini stalwart Mirko Bortolotti and former F1 star Daniil Kvyat will be joined by Edoardo Mortara. The 36-year-old Swiss-Italian had a successful junior career, winning the F3 Euro Series title in 2010, and went on to become an outstanding GT, DTM and Formula E racer. He is also known for his record of seven overall Macau wins.

Andrea Caldarelli, who was recently announced for the 2024 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, will be paired with Matteo Cairoli and Romain Grosjean. A 27-year-old Italian, Cairoli won multiple races in FIA WEC and ELMS in the last few years, running in the GTE-Am class. After joining Iron Lynx for 2023, he will now make the step up to GTP, the leading class of IMSA, becoming a Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory Driver.

Having joined the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory team earlier this year, Grosjean will put his American experience to fruition in the tightly-contested series, running on some of the most challenging and iconic racetracks of the continent.

The Daytona and COTA testing session saw the Lamborghini SC63 give good proof of itself, completing around 3.000 kilometers. The programme focused mainly on race stint simulations, with a particular focus on powertrain mapping, control systems and set-up.

With a lot of work still to do, the Lamborghini Iron Lynx team will now take a quick break only to get back on track early next year, to prepare the two new cars for their 2024 duties.

“Coming from two positive tests in Daytona and COTA, where the car proved competitive and consistent, it’s amazing to announce a lineup made of so many talented drivers. We cannot wait to welcome Matteo and Edoardo to the team as Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory Drivers, and we are sure they will be an instant fit within our operation. They are fast, experienced and professional, and these are consistent features across the whole driver roster, so we couldn’t be happier with how it shaped up. We have a lot of work still to do to be ready, but we are looking forward to the final preparations and to the start of the season.”
Iron Lynx CEO, Andrea Piccini
“We are embarking on an exciting new chapter for the brand, and we are looking forward to our debut on the WEC stage with our new Lamborghini SC63. We worked really hard over the last few seasons to make this happen. I would like to thank everybody involved in this project for the hard efforts, and we cannot wait to go racing.”
Mirko Bortolotti
“I’m very happy to be racing in FIA WEC next year with Lamborghini Iron Lynx. I think that the experience we had with LMP2 this year was a great way to learn the championship, so we will start with a solid base in 2024 to focus on the performance side straight away. I’m also delighted with this year’s development work with Lamborghini. Things are going well, and I cannot wait to start the new journey. It will be very interesting and exciting!”
Daniil Kvyat
“I am super happy to be joining Lamborghini Squadra Corse, which is allowing me this incredible opportunity to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship, both of which I have wanted to take part in for a long time. It is a very proud moment for me, and I hope we can achieve some good results next season.”
Edoardo Mortara
“First of all, I am really excited to be here in Austin for my second proper outing with the LMDh car, and I want to thank Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Giorgio, and the Iron Lynx family for this amazing opportunity and for believing in me. I am ready to give the best of myself next year; clearly, it’s a dream I have been chasing for a long time and to do it with an Italian brand as an Italian driver has given me even more motivation. The aim is to learn as much as possible about the car for next year, but I am already pumped for the start of the season.”
Matteo Cairoli
“I am delighted to be racing in IMSA next year with our new Lamborghini SC63 GTP race car. IMSA has always been my favourite championship to race in, also in my past GT experiences and I am very grateful for this opportunity given by Lamborghini to return to the series. I look forward to competing with Lamborghini Iron Lynx. I know they have been working very hard on this project, and I am certain that it will be a very tough but successful year.”
Andrea Caldarelli
“I’m very excited about the whole Lamborghini LMDh project. It has been amazing to see the car being born, test it and finally reveal it. I cannot wait for us to hit the track racing. I have two great teammates, and I look forward to seeing what we can do against the best manufacturers in the world.”
Romain Grosjean
